Chubby is a bit of a softie. He wanted some attention today but doesn’t like to get in the melee by the gate – it’s too muddy and nobody really likes wet muddy feet.

It’s almost impossible to do anything unaided in the sheep field so if we are putting down bedding in the pig arcs then we are all working together. Teamwork makes the dream work. It was very squashed.

Storm Darragh threw the pig arcs around the field – we found the sheep all huddled by the fence on Saturday evening – they had obviously been alarmed and didn’t feel safe near the shelter. There was a tree down closing the road to the farm but it had been cleared by Sunday morning.

Skinny Minnie always has a muddy nose these days – she diligently hoovers up every bit of dropped food out of the mud.

Bramble lives up to her name. So called because of all the sheep, she seems to get herself entangled. Sometimes we do find a sheep who has got themselves tied up in the hedge … usually just walking over motivates them to free themselves.

I got to the field today and Tim had topped up the hay feeder and put hay in both pig arcs. A very happy flock.

I had some help today. This is Jess. I was just dog sitting so wasn’t sure how she would react to the sheep. The Guinea fowl kept their distance. Jess tried to eat their mealworms. And after a bit of alarm the sheep quickly settled down when they realised she was more interested in their food than them. Here 52 looks on with consternation.

I don’t know why they pick this spot for their morning sunbathe – it is between the bush and the fence – it must feel like being trapped in a really small cage.

Brrr … minus 3 today. Everyone waiting by the gate for some breakfast.

Fluffing up the bedding in the pig arc – this time with straw not hay – so they don’t eat it all.

The track to the barn is completely flooded today. The river on the left has burst its banks. Apparently, the water came up to the axel on the tractor so even a 4×4 would not have made it. The sheep are fine by the way – they are a long way from the river.
